Exclamation Vauxhall Astra convertible Roof problem

I have an astra convertible on an 04 plate, the roof has stoped working on it and it just bleeps whenever it is unlocked, locked, ignition is put on, handbrake taken off, and roof button is pressed but nothing else happens the boot also wont work on the central locking and this happened exactly the same time so think it is probably conected. i have been told from someone that he had same problem butgot it sorted for £40.00 at a convertible specialistbut cant find one in the wakefield area ??, ive also noticed that the hydraulic fluid for the hood is below minimum but dont no how to top it up or wot with ? there is nothing in the book that tell you how to. Any help would be greatly appreciated ????
i have been told that the roof control unit could be to blame aswel ! buti dont have a clue please help !!!!!
    thanx dan

i have a 1.8 atra bertone convertible and i had the same problem with my roof i took it in to be checked out and put on a tech 2 machine which came up with no faults it was really pissin me off mine is sorted now though imy roof hadnt closed properly the last time i used it that was why i was getting the beepin sound if you look above your head when you are sitting in the drivers seat there is a little black thing in the roof right in the middle if you remove this with a screwdriver there is a allen key inside if you turn the allen key clockwise till you cant turn it any further then try your roof again this is what i was told to do tday to mine and hey presto it is now workin fine i had to put it up and down a few times to get it back minto sink but works fine now hopefully that mite be your problem hope this helps anyway.....

if you check in your manual it tells you how to close your hood if it fails when open basically your just doing the oposite of that hope this works for you....

I have exactly the same problem with my roof, and put the car into the main dealer this morning for a service and MOT, but asked them about the roof problems I was having while they had the car in. Apparently, this is a known issue with the Astra roof control unit, and it will cost me between 250-300 quid to get a new unit. As if that isnt bad enough, despite this being a known issue, Vauxhall are not making any replacements until August 2009, so even if I want to pay for the roof to be fixed. I have to wait until August at the earliest.
I am very interested in your comment that a convertable specialist may be able to sort it much cheaper. I may get onto this. Even if I have to travel a hundred miles, it will be easier and cheaper than waiting for Vauxhall to get their act together

    Roof Problems

    Hi

Has anyone worked out what to do with the roof problems yet? I have a 2005 astra, roof wont work at all just keep getting very loud beeping sound coming from the passenger footwell from time to time. Had the car in the main dealers a couple of weeks ago and asked them to investigate the problem and after charging me for 2 hours labour they decided they are still not sure what the problem is but are happy to charge me another £600 to replace the roof ECU to see if that sorts it!! Have spoken to Vauxhal customer care department who said they don't know of any previous problems but changing the ECU is the next step. By the way how do you put the roof down manually when the electrics control the lifting of the cover for the roof space?

    Any help!! Lyn
