    Dos and Donts for turbos?

    Hey all,

i'm looking for some general information about turbos.

if you have a turbo on your car, what do you do in regards to find either an uprated one or a new larger / better performing one?

i know there will be other changes in regards internals, piping and intercoolers but just trying to get the basics on turbos.

hi m8 you need a very deep pocket if want to put a larger turbo on,
does and donts always let it warm up before any use of the turbo always allow it to simmer after a hard drive always do regular oil changes like every 3000 miles

some people would argue that's not necessary due to the 'advanced' nature of todays oils

the turbo's on the diesl boat engines in the navy used to get what is called turbo cleaned, to remove the build up on the blades to maintain the efficiency of the turbo, oil changes were no regular than stated in our hand books and the regular checks we did on the engines, only confirmed the above comment about nature of oils. The turbos, were sucking in oily air from the engine bay through a minute filter as well as salty air and water. The build up was negligable when we turbo cleaned them every 3000-4000 run hours. Going on that basis i reckon the condition of air entering the engine that we get through the intakes in our car is a far better quality an I reckon our turbo's are fairly safe, as long as we don't drive it like we stole it lol, then it just falls into the general wear and tear of any material.
Size isn't everything as long as its shiny!

generally let tuners do the research and testing to whats best to upgrade a turbo to...

...then convince your local dealer to fit it (properly )
