    2nd gear - Clunking noise

I have recently purchased a Astra 2.0 Turbo (05 plate) and I have noticed that when I first drive off, and change into 2nd gear, I get a funny clicking noise from the right hand side of the engine (the only thing I can liken the noise too is like stones being thrown up under the wheel arch). It happens around 10 or so seconds after driving off, and the sound does appear to come from down low in the engine bay. I never noticed it when I first bought the car but haapens everytime now... any ideas? (my initial reaction was that possibly the brake in the driver side wheel was sticking)

It only happens when I first start off... if I have been driving for a while and change from 1st to 2nd I don't get the noise?

    Bizarre!!
I passed the vicar's wife a biscuit but I was surprised to see her snatch

perhaps I should also say that the noise lasts for a matter of 2 seconds or so.

PAFC BUCKY, I have the exact same noise (I think) always the same scenario, start up, drive off, switch to second, start accelerating and there's a noise very hard to describe but I believe it is the same thing! Mine too is a MK5 05 Astra. It only happens when you first start up the car, like something is disengaging, the noise is very difficult to describe but kinda of sounds like, say if you have a noisy brake pedal, so when you press hard and then let go, it kinda clanks when it comes back up, but it only ever happens once, after the car is started up. I've noticed if I switch off the engine, even for a minute or so and start up to drive off again, the same noise appears, so it can't be something lose or broken or it would happen each time you changed from first to second. I've just put it down to a characteristic of the car and gotten used to it, but still, each time it happens, I do think 'hmmm wonder what that could be...' miffed but glad to see i'm not alone

I'd have to say both, there's a clicking noise and then a final clunk before the noise stops. The noise lasts no longer than a second and a half and it's not very loud, so sometimes I don't notice it if I switch on the stereo before I drive off.

I suppose its more a clunk than a click (although initially it sounds like a click, that goes into a clunk) .. bizarre!!
