    Quick Question

my cars still running abit lumpy but due to funds being very low ive been tryin to do some cheap maintainance on my G.

anyway gonna clean the EGR valve out today.
had a quick look at the tech pages and it says quote

    Step 3
Remove the EGR valve using an E12 Torx socket on the two bolts holding it down.
Once these two bolts are out, the EGR valve will simply lift away.
Either clean out the EGR valve with carb cleaner or replace it (which is recommended). Always use a
    new gasket when refitting.
    Step

always use a new gasket when refitting
will i have to buy one?
is it essential that i get a new one what are the risks of just using same one.

    any help would be appreciated

    thanx

I think it's a paper gasket so it will fall apart when you take it apart. I doubt they'd be very expensive from Vauxhall. Few quid if that. You could probably make one with gasket paper from a motor factors.

the egr valve is bolted onto the top of the inlet manfold. It looks like a silver metal cylinder about the size of a half can of baked beans - a plug goes into the top of it. Best thing to do is bung on a blanking plate - its a pain in the bum - without it you get more power on light throttle and a smoother running engine.

It won't fail the mot either as the egr only comes into play on light throttle and not idle which is when the mot emission test is done.

Have a look on fleabay - to see what they look like - they sell loads of these as they are always going wrong.
It is only when the last tree is felled, the last animal killed and the last fish hauled from the sea that we will realise we can't eat money.
