Excellent, another good source of Astra related info..heh.
I have a query for all you good people out there:
I've just bought an X plate (2000 reg) Astra-G Club auto, with the Z16SE lump. Prior to this, I had a nice tidy Astra-F Merit X16SZR auto, that some tit wrote off 2 weeks ago.
When I looked at this G, it had the engine light on, and the airbag light. The garage I bought it from reseated the airbag plugs (knocked out during valet), and had it serviced, also clearing the fault.
Yesterday was my first proper run in the car for any distance - it's a nice drive. Then I realised the gauge was sat on 80. Warm air available, rises when in traffic or moving slow, at "normal" speeds it drops like a stone. So, my guess is dead 'stat.
Now, I had this on my X16SZR, but the head gasket had also gone..it cost about £316. What would/should it roughly cost to do JUST the stat, timing belt and water pump? The car is at 54k, one owner, FSH etc. I'm guessing from this forum Vx recommend changing at 80k/8 years - since this car is now 9, I'd guess it won't hurt to do it anyway.
Also..the engine light came back on. Pedal pushing flash codes gave me P0400, EGR - from the looks of this forum it's well known.. Car seems merry enough, but I'll bet ti's the fault it showed when I first saw it. I'm going to call Vx and query the "EGR software update", but I'll also try cleaning the valve.
Definetly got to grab one of those OPCOM units off Ebay to clear the light.
This G is a tad more complex than my Base model F...but I hope it's as reliable..
