car doesnt turn off when i take the key out HELP

i took a video of the problem below, its really strange it only does it when i have the headlights on and when i turn the headlights off the engine turns off. plus now the engine management light has come on. i havent got a clue what could be wrong, how could the engine not turn off when the keys took out and actually turn off with the headlight switch

Have you done the pedal test or plugged a code reader in to find out why the management light is on? Do a search for pedal test if your unsure.

Pretty sure i have seen this problem posted on here in the past, so someone should have the answer to your problem

Probably going to be a short in the headlight wiring somewhere, maybe a bad earth

Does it stay running with headlights only or the sidelights?

its stays running on both headlight and sidelight and only turns off when the headlights are fully off, the engine management light has gone off now aswell even though the problem still remains

I don't think there's going to be any easy way to fix this. Start by unplugging the rear light clusters and see if the problem goes on. Next remove the front side light bulbs. If it still goes on then remove the side light fuses.

Just a case or process of elimination unfortunatly

Have you had any work done before this started no matter how small?

the only work ive done to the car was to put a new cig lighter in and a new fuse because there was no fuse there before, the only other strange thing is ever since i bought the car the dash instrument lights havent worked even though every other light does

If the ciggy lighter is shorting out to the illumination it could cause this problem. Take it out again and unplug it to see if it stops, if not remove the fuse again
