    Power steering intermitant fault

    Hello

Wonder if anyone can shed any light on this - it's on on Astra Mk4 1.7 Dti (53 plate).

Yesterday morning I noticed the PAS was not starting immediately, taking 5 or 10 seconds to come on (seems it kicked in more or less as I was pulling off).
This happened a few times during the course of the day, then in the evening it failed completely when I started the engine, and the battery warning light stayed on all the way home.

I had another little look this morning, the belts are all nice and tight and the fluid is topped up etc. While I was checking it I started it up for about the 3rd time and the PAS started working again and the battery light stayed off.

Anyone have any experience of this? I suspect the alternator, if so what would need doing (new brushes, whol;e new unit, etc).
Is this such a common problem that used parts would be pointless?

    All help greatly appreciated

Check the cable that runs from the alternator to the power steering pump. Sometimes the connections can become loose or corrode.
