    Running Cold

    Hi

my mk4 GSi temp gauge shows pretty cold all the time (just above the 2nd black line) and only gets close to 90 in town (stop/start)

I think this is a open thermostat? Is that right?

Is it easy to change? I heard you just take off the engine plastic cover and you can see it bottom left?

Thermostat is on the front of the block, its in the metal pipe to the left if looking from the front, get a new gasket aswell if your changing it.

Id say so mate, shouldnt be any air locks in the system as its self bleeding. Its a piece of piss to change.
Coolant drain plug is on the bottom left of the rad (red nob thingy), flush it all through with a hose after you remove the thermostat housing to get rid of any crap in the system, when its all back together and topped up with coolant leave the heater on hot and leave the cap of the coolant reservoir untill it all heats up and its flowing through all the pipes.
