    cool running thermo ?

    hey guys, how much does this really help on the coupe ? and how much are you guys paying for it ex fitting?? thanks.

    Are these not original GM parts just the price is hiked up when bought from a tuner? (I though I remember reading they were installed in cars in hotter climates by default, so being SA you may already have one ;-))

    What sort of water temps are you getting?

    I just fitted one of these and my old one had 92degrees on it. takes forever to reach 80degrees

    And thats all a cool running stat will do, lengthen the time taken for the coolant and consequently the engine to warm up.
    I really don't see how these things are going to reduce the overall running temperature.

    thanks guys, so basically not worth doing then ? maybe adding a front mount oil cooler will help a bit ?

    my car runs just above 90. it does not overheat at all. will the thermo help for track days ?

    Yes it will help, but only for the first few laps

    A separate oil cooler will help a lot more then a cool thermostat! Beside that any cooler than 80 deg and you'll have coolant ECU light issues.
    The only way to be 100% certain that work has been done properly is to do it yourself.
