the 1st obvious answer is oil getting on the element and killing it, what filter do u have fitted

the normal AFM killer is there is oil getting on element, has the filter been oiled? i went through 5 AFM in 6 months, before i discovered the previous owner had over oiled the filter, and that it was killing my AFM, buy a cheapy paper one from vaux, only a few squid, bang that on with new AFM and see how it goes

well i had my old coupe for a few months, and then all of sudden, as i said above went through 6,lol. but the best and easier way to see is to put a paper filter on, since my ickle experience i only use paper filters now, if i want induction will only use an apexi, cuts down the probs known with zlet AFM, but something is getting on element i would think and killing the afm, they not the most robust things though, hence why ppl upgrde to vxr ones, but u will need a map to run one

try cleaning the filter and re-oiling it, if you lean it against something and spray it lightly it should be ok. The trick is to find the point where the mist of oil gets to the filter not the stream of oil even then only spray for a few seconds basicaly MIST the filter not STREAM it, start about 20cm away from the filter. i over oiled mine once an found the throttle response wasnt as sharp so re did it and its been fine since

you can get some afm cleaner on ebay, havent used it but its supposed to remove any oil from the element without causing any damage. only about a fiver i think could be worth a go
