    Insignia, my thoughts.

I took the smart in for some repairs to Mercedes today and was offered the usual 1.0 Corsa courtesy car or I could pay a tenner and get an insignia. I thought it would be a good opportunity to try one out, not having been in one yet.

My first impressions is that it's light years ahead of the old Vectra C - Vauxhall have actually put a bit of thought into the design of this car rather than chucking out another boring rep-mobile. It feels very solid and stable and although I didn't like the looks of them at first they do look quite 'chunky' and fairly upmarket for a mainstream brand. The interior is a very nice place to be with a nice amount of toys. While the build quality isn't really up there with the Germans imo, it's definitely a step forward and nicely designed.

The one downside on the one I had was the engine, the 1.8 simply doesn't have the poke to move a car of that size/weight with any urgency. Even next to my little 1.6 Astra the Insignia felt unresponsive and generally sluggish.

That aside, with a decent engine (more than likely the CDTi) it would definitely tempt me over other similar cars. The new VXR version is going to be a belter I reckon.

Rental cars don't have such privileges.

(and I didn't have enough time on my lunch hour)

My dad had one for a day or two when he was in england last week, he said the same thing, felt and looked pretty good but the 1.8 is just so slow, but he did say its nothing compared to his octavia.

My dad has just ordered the 2.0 CDTI. Can't wait to have a go in it, as I am only 5'3" I should look like a midget in a limo

Why does a Mercede's garage give out Vauxhalls as a courtesy car?

Surely its a perfect opportunity to give you a new Smart/A class/C class or anything else to try and tempt you into upgrading?

    Insignia's look nice though

Yeah, Enterprise do their courtesy cars so it's just whatever they have.

Would have the new Seat xeox or whatever its called over the insignia imo. Poked around both now and the SEAT is a far nicer place to be
