    MK4 - Ashtray Won't Close

    Hey A.O.C!

I have a little problem with my mk4 astra

The ashtray won't close, and it's bugging me! Do you have any suggestions, I have read somewhere that this is a common problem, but I don't have a clue how to remove the ashtray. And I have heard it is a pain in the a*** to replace?

    Any tips?

    Thanks,
    Dean

    Yes
I fixed it... i took my ashtray apart, and put it back together lol
apparently I was lucky that I still had my spring... my advice is to take ur ashtray out, and dismantle it, and put it back together

it's a little tricky, but you have to be forceful yet gentle lol

Ah cool cheers! I know there's a How-To for dismantling it but how do you actually remove the ash tray? As that's not covered in the guide.

Well, you've got your ashtray, and the cigaratte lighter to the right of it...

Open your ashtray, and there are 2 x torx screws, (theres another, but this is for the Centre console)
You undo these 2 screws, and remove the black plate on the cigaratte lighter (oh yer, remove the cigarette lighter first)
Pull the black plastic cover off, and pull ur ashtray out... I had to wiggle mine about, and be a bit forceful, but I was careful at the same time... it came out eventually

When i open the ash tray there are 3 screws... guessing it's the two outer ones?

Also how do i go about removing the cig lighter? I can take the front plate off but that's it so far...

yer theres 3 screws IIRC, and 2 of thema re for the ashtray, and 1 is forthe Centre Console... erm... I'm pretty sure it just pulls out, like I said, you have to be quite forceful, but careful at the same time... trust me its a lot easier to go back in than it is to get out... IT's a shame your so far away otherwise i would of happily helped you
