Unhappy 2.0 DTI Rough Cold Starting...

Hi all, i am new on here so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 2003 Astra 2.0DTi SXI 16v, this is my third year of owning the car and up until now i have had no major problems.
recently when starting from cold the engine seems to violently judder just before firing. I thought this may have been caused by worn out glow plugs or dirty air filter but after servicing the juddering on cold start up is still there.

once started the car runs smoothy with no problems, and when warm it starts as normal. Just when the car has been left overnight and from cold this juddering happens.

Any suggestions as to what this could be?

Does the glow plug light illuminate?
Do you wait for it to extinguish before attempting to start?
    Does it run ok otherwise?
Spanner light come on at all?
    Any smoke when driving?
    Whats the mileage on it?

Yes glow plug light illuminates as normal - Glow plugs were replaced about a month ago.
Yes i have always waited for it to go out before turning the engine
Otherwise its runs perfectly, smooth pickup, plenty of power etc.
The spanner light sometimes comes on and only goes out after 20mph
    No smoke at all
mileage is just shy of the 100k mark.
Is there a chance this could be the injectors or the EGR valve?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Possible that you are drawing in a little air in. i.e. injector seals, forward or retun pipes to the filter housing or fuel filter head overtightened.

Thanks spedo! do you know how i would go about checking these things?
I can check the injector seals but am unsure where the fuel filter is located.

    Thanks Guys

    Smile

I have had the same problem with a 2.0dti vectra. The rubber tubes linking the injectors become cracked and allow air into the fuel, once these are replaced you should have no problems. The poor starting in the morning is due to the fuel running out of the pipes so you are pumping air until the pipes refill with fuel.

    Hope this helps, Mike
