Unhappy I like mayonnaise on my chicken mayo's....

NOT in my goddamn oil cap!!!!

Went to check my oil / plugs etc yesterday as my car suddenly began running like a bag o' spanners. (only running on 3 cylinders on tickover, etc)

Went to pull my dipstick out and my oil's contaminated! I'm absolutely gutted!

I've just spent £500 to get my MK3 through it's ruddy MOT so I've come to the conclusion it's got to be done.

I've got a mechanic prepared to do the work in his own time, and I can get the head skimmed at a local cnc cad/cam place as my buddy works there and has done looooads before.

I have one question to you knowledgable folks though - I've got an X16XEL engine, but is there any better gasket sets available except the standard VX/GM ones? I'm sure I've heard of 'reinforced' or 'kevlar' gaskets that are supposed to be better than the ones GM have to offer. This may be utter poppycock but just thought I'd ask first!

    Cheers chaps =)

Are you sure the Head Gaskets gone?

As keif said, is the headgasket really gone?

Its a common occurrance to find mayo like sludge in the oil filler caps?

It could just be dirty plugs creating the misfire rather than oss of compression so dont worry too much yet mate, start with the cheaper bits before jumping in and spending money u might not need to

A little bit of deposit could be from condensation in the oil not being evaporated off. not unusual in cars used for short trips. If plugs haven't been changed for a while got to be worth a check before anything expensive. A compression test will confirm if gaskets gone. Tester tool is only a few £.

I'm sure the head gasket's gone, aye. I'm using a header tank up completely in <10 miles, and it's coming straight back out of the exhaust. :-( She's runnin like a steam engine! I can leave my engine running for 5 minutes and my header tank cap is actually hard to undo there's that much pressure in the system already! we're not talking a few drips of water in the oil here - It's everywhere. Superduper mayo. I've already had the plugs out once and they're oiled up and white/mayo'd up too.
