Over the next few days, i intend to spray up my spare grille so that i then have a spare for if i intend to sell or if the one on the car goes bust etc etc.
The one i've got on, i primerd, painted & lacquerd, but only because folk on here said so.
I believe primer lets the paint stick? Paint is, well the colouring, and lacquer adds shine & final protection.
Dunno if there's more to it than that, but that's all i've found out really.
Are there any real effects of layering though?
Q1: Is 4 layers of primer better than 2, or is 4 needless & you're in effect wasting 2coats worth that could be used for something else (note: i picked those numbers at random).
Q2: is there any benefit of layering paint? Unlike the primer question where i'm not sure, i imagine there would be in this case. Don't know if it becomes pointless after a certain amount though
Q3: again, any benefits of layering the lacquer, or does that also become pointless after a certain amount?
Q4: If you've got plenty of time, are there any benefits lets say, from leaving 24hrs for e.g. between coats, instead of 15-20mins?
the reason for Q4 comes from a guy on a board telling me if you leave 20mins between coats then 2 coats essentially becomes only 1.5 coats, whereas 24hours between would be like total dryness - meaning 2 coats would be exactly that - 2 coats
Soz for the daft Qs, but just figured i'd ask before i take the time on the spare one.
