Anyone ever heard of this (Complexity warning lol)

    OK,

When I bought my coupe (Z18XE) I had problems with the temp guage! It would sit coolest then heat up in traffic and overheat and bring the fans on and coolant warning light.

New water pump and thermostat later it was sitting in the middle and still overheating every so often but letting the fans cool it but leaving the coolant warning light on the dash!

Took it to a different mechanic (Albeit Jap specialist he knows his stuff!) and hes said that theres possibly a problem with the wiring or loom, or possibly ECU itself.

He is concerned the lack of pressure in the Air Con system too is aiding the problem so holding the car overnight to be gassed and pressurized tomorrow morning before checking the ECU pins again for problems

    Questions I have

Anyone ever had this or a similar problem?

How much would I get a 2nd hand z18xe OBDII ECU for?

Will my car ever stop having problems.. lol

    Thanks
    Pete

more than likely just the coolant ECU itself thats at fault

fairly common problem and a replacement shouldnt be that pricey - 2 plugs and ur sorted.

its located on the passenger side just behind the front bumper

theres usually a few on ebay but you have to make sure u grab the correct IDENT for your model

Z18XE should be IDENT "CG" and "WG" - check yours first

heres a "CG" coolant control module as an example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-ASTRA-FAN-CONTROL-MODULE-UNIT-CG_W0QQitemZ390037419050QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Cars Parts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item390037419050&_ trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683|66%3A2|65% 3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

I may however be miles off the mark with this suggestion

Sorry to ask but how do I check the IDENT, printed on the module itself just?

yeah just like it is in the pic in the ebay link

early Z18XE models used CG but this was then superseded by WG

obviously both are interchangeable and featured on a few Astra G models so are readily available at breakers and the likes

you should be able to see it from underneath once jacked up
