    Strange Noise when turning?

    Hey,

Picked up my new car at the weekend
I noticed (after I'd driven home) that it makes a strange noise when turning right.
Last night i noticed it does it when turning left too?

Any idea's what it could be?

    It's a 1.6 SXi mk4 petrol

The best way I can think of describing the noise is... It sounds like the noise a cricket makes (sorry for the weird descriptive)
But it sounds like a 'metal like' intermitent cricket noise. That makes a noise in time to the wheel turning? If that makes sense. So when the wheel gets a full rotation it stops for a split second and continues.
It makes this noise when turning left or right.

I'm sure that if anyone has had this problem they will know what I mean
The car is going intot he garage for a service on 22nd, so I'm going to get them to have a look... I'm just wondering how deep my pockets gna need to be?

    Wheel Bearings.

Inform the seller that the bearings are gone, try and get them to pay for it, unless the car was 'sold as seen', then you're going to be a few bob out of pocket.

Are you positive it could be wheel bearings?
Will taht mean I'll need a new hub?

I never noticed it on the test drive, but it doesn't make the noise every time i turn.
More often than not... but not every time.

The guy lives a long way away unfortunately (n)

Yeah, my old mk4 did the same thing. Just replaced the bearings, not the hubs, and all was well again.

    A Quick Question...
I am aware of this noise, and it appears to beg etting worse...
Now I am booked in on the 22nd April for a full service, and I have asked the guy to check the noise out for me.

Would you recommend taht I not drive my car until the service?
Or is it not causing that much damage?
Basically, can it hold off for 1 more week?

Also... How simple procedure is this? Will he be able to recognise the problem and sort it during the day... or am I going to take my car in, then he will tell me what's wrong, and then I'll have to wait even longer for parts etc.?

    Brake pads worn out?
How did that make a squeaking noise when turning?
It doesn;t happen when applying brakes, only when turning left or right, mostly when i turn left now.

Just the same as mine did the brake pads have metal pointers on them to touch the disc when worn to let you know they need renewing check them.
