2.2 Sri sounding like a diesel, losing power... car now at Vauxhall!

    Hi everyone.
I posted before that I had recently purchased a 2.2 Sri Astra quite cheaply knowing that there was a problem with it (basically sounding like a diesel)

Gave it an engine flush and changed the oil and everything was fine for a month or so but still sounding like a diesel.
Then on Saturday I had a knocking noise coming from the front and loss power going down dual carriageway. Putting foot down and couldn't do beyond 60mph

Took it to my local main dealers and mechanic looked over it for 10 minutes and said that the tensioners had gone causing the cam chain to slip and cause the knocking because the timing is out.

Does anyone reckon this sounds like the ongoing problem with some engines that the oil nozzle should of been replaced? I keep hearing stories on many Vauxhall forums that 'field remedy 1532' is what you need to quote and people have had the job paid for by Vauxhall.

I had this same problem with my tensioner, it was noisy as hell and eventually collapsed causing the chain to snap, cost me a fortune to get it fixed as it needed a full rebuild.
There is another recent thread with some more details. If the dealer thinks its the tensioner then its best to be replaced asap especially if your unsure when it was last done, i think its every 40-45k they should be done?

    thought I recognised the name
towing her away from Vauxhall later on today and taking her to a local mechanic he reckons Vaux are trying to do me over and make out the repairs are more expensive than what I need plus me being a woman... and not knowing all the technical stuff about engines
