    Mk5 engine into Mk4...?

    My z16xe (2002 SXi 1.6 16v - 78k) is showing signs of wear - using loads of oil and blue smoke out of the exhaust, its only just started doing it really but I'm guessing the valve stem oil seals or pistons rings will need doing at some point!

    The cost of doing these would be damn near as close as an replacing the engine, so I've been looking on ebay. Mk5 z16xe1 engines are quite plentiful and cheap(ish) for for about £300/400 but what issues/problems would I come across trying to drop one in my car..?

    Maqin problem is that MK5 run on canbus and MK4 dont! so you would need to put al the wiring from a MK5 in there, and its pointless just drop a ZLET in it!

    Would the cost of a ZLET not be a lot more than £300/400 though?

    Im not sure mate tbh, you would have to ask someone who has done it, that or put a 1.6 in it from a mk4!
