Modifying The Resonator box (Astra H 1.6twinport)

A while ago i de-restricted my airbox by removing the 2 pipes, and at the same time i fitted the vxr intake and pipe

after driving around i found it was a bit better on responsiveness so after a long time of debating and finally getting to a breakers yard i found the charger pipe (from the MAF to T/B) so bought it and took it home to "modify it"

Removed the box, cut a circular hole from the bottom of it and melted it onto the pipe so i have no air gaps.

anyway took it for a drive and it felt even more responsive which was the aim of it BUT when driving on a long straight road and trying to overtake there was nothing there.

3rd gear usually tops out around 80 and pulls all the way (before mod) but when trying to do this with the new mod it took ages and seemed to top out around 75ish but after it got past 4,500k - 5k revs it seemed like there was no grunt.

is this normal? neway ive put the old pipe on until i can find out whats going on as i liked having the pull right thru the rev range

id like to put it back on if people have any ideas what happened.

At speed the vectra ( and standard) air intake has a "ram" effect. Air is forced into the air box as you drive along. By cutting a hole in the lower portion of the air box the air being forced in by the standard air intake is let out again. Hope this helps

I've a feeling that the 'ram' effect is a big pile of nonsense...

Removing the resonator box has mixed results, and to be honest most seem to say 'no difference' or that it makes things a little worse than before. It is there for a reason and offers no restrictions on the air intake at all so I see no reason to remove it myself.

oic well i refitted it and think ill stay with it on as it came out the factory like that.

seems to pull better with it on rather than off anyway.
