    Quick exhaust question

Elo, Can anyone help me with this?

They make exhaust systems specific to engine size, e.g. 1.8 exhaust, 2.0 turbo exhaust... But is there any difference in a cat back system?

Im asking because I have a 1.6 turbo astra sporthatch and I have access to a cat back sportex exhaust coming off a 1.8 sporthatch and want to know if it will fit/perform properly as mines a different/more powerful turbo engine?

    Cheers in advance!

Surely its purely going to depend on the size? Get a Vernier caliper on them both, if they're the same diameter it should be fine to use... However more than likely the 1.8 NA will be 2.0" and yours will be 2.5"...

turbo pipework (well the 2.0T as used on mk4/5) is 2.25" or 57.15mm if u wanna be picky

NA models will be bog standard 2"

Not sure what the 1.6T bore will be but one would assume they retained the 2.25" for ease and compatibility with other engines etc

the above sizes are what the OE standard bore is.... aftermarket pipeworks usually tends to be larger for turbo models - ie upgrade from std 2.25" to aftermarket 2.5" (or 3" if u like to be loud!)

NA models generally retain the standard 2" bore - Seeing as its Sportex - ie generally a budget brand I would assume the pipework in question is 2"

It will work and fit without any major problems but you may suffer a little restriction and expect to lose a few ponies

Unless its such a bargain price and yours is dying on its arse I would stay clear

Theres bargains to be had if you look around - why not contact RoadRunner Motorsport - they may still have some bargain bankrupt stock from Magnex (they trade on ebay as junction26M1)
