I don't know if this is the right forum for this but I've got a '57 reg Astra Design 1.9 CDTi 150 hatchback which I bought from a local Vauxhall dealer in January when the weather was obviously cold and it wasn't possible, therefore, to check whether the aircon was working properly.
It's been quite warm today with a maximum outside temperature of 17 degrees but when I pressed the aircon button nothing seemed to happen, even though the light came on. This could be because the air coming into the car was already at the lowest temperature that the aircon would chill it to. However when we got back to the car having parked it in the sun so the interior would get hot and turned the ventilation to recirculate and the aircon on there still didn't seem to be any chilling going on.
Also on previous cars I've driven if you turned the aircon on you could clear a clunk as the compressor cut in. In addition the engine revs would drop slightly. However nothing like that seems to happen with this car.
This could simply be because the ambient temperature isn't high enough yet for the aircon to kick in but I would be grateful for any other comments or advice. Many thanks, GSD.
