How long do Royal Mail lost post refunds take?

If you submit a claim for an item lost in the post (non-signed for), how long do they normally take to respond whether they're compensating you or not?

Weeks!!! Its almost a waste of time bothering, its so frustrating you never get to speak to the same person, forms to fill in and no guarantee of a result! Well that's my experience.

Youll be waiting ages, i regularly claim for items in work (although they are all signed for items) they can take months before paying out, usually a few weeks for them to send me a letter requesting more information and then another month or so to actually post a cheque out, their claims department is useless, they always forget to put my reference number on the letters so i have to phone them to get all the details.
