    Very odd noise :(

    Hi you lot!

Yesterday, for the first time my car (Z20LET) made some very strange noises - and I don't like it!

Firstly I heard a strange squelching noise. Popped the bonnet and from the outside it was more like a screaching. It was occasional (once every 15 seconds) and was coming from the OS side of the bay.

It stopped after about 5 miles but later I was getting a knockin / tapping noise maybe twice a second.

Any thoughts (hope its not expensive) I was thinking alternator possibly, but according to my ScanGauge the volts are holding perfectly, it shouldn't be the water pump as that's around 10,000 miles old. I'm puzzled

Thanks for looking and any help!
    Paul

Cheers mate I'll certainly try that and hopefully it'll just be a slack belt.

could anyone tell me (or show me) where the tensioner is?

    Cheers

    Nice one matey!
Does it move along some sort of rail so it can be tightend to the desired tension?

no its sprung loaded and works on a cam so if you put a spanner on it and go to tighten it up it takes the tension off the belt, you will only need to move it slightly or if you want remove the belt totally and run it

personaly i'd remove the fanbelt/auxilary belt and then check all the pullies for play and spin them too to listen if they are noisy.

then i'd run the engine with the fanbelt/auxilary belt off and have another listen.
