    Z18XE inlet manifold on a Z16XE?

I asked about this in another thread, but does anyone know how much the inlet manifolds differ between the Z16XE and the Z18XE?

I'm assuming the Z18XE one is larger but will it fit onto the Z16XE engine?

If anyone has the bits to try this or at least take some piccies then I'd be grateful

Well I am pretty sure the manifolds on all small block engines in the astra are the same internal diameter

Could be wrong though, so don't take my word on it

Could it be worth doing something like SteveC has done?

Different ports and bolt hole locations between the Z18XE and the Z16XE

Z18XE (inlet manifold gaskets on the far right)

Z16XE (inlet manifold gaskets in the middle)

Cheers Mark, clears that one up! So from those piccies it looks like the Z18XE inlet is a larger diameter though? Would it be at all possible to get one customised to fit the bolt holes on the Z16XE block then?

Its the Z16XE inlte manifodl that has the slightly largere style of ports beign triangular rather than the dummy shapped ones on the Z18XE.

Going by what you have said in your other thread I would suggest that you ratin the original manifold but fit a Z18XE throttle if I can figure out if its compatible, either that or I can send you a Z18XE throttle to experiment with until you can get a hold of one yourself. I will speak to the engineerig shop round the corner from my work and see what it would cost to mill out a piece of aluminium to match the Z18XE throttle but fit the Z16XE inlet manifold.

Or speak nicely to Geoff to provide his dremel skills....

I'll probably not get much chance to play with my car at the mo, though I've no doubts work would be good for sorting out the aluminium mounting bracket!

Further confused now if the Z18XE has a smaller diameter inlet manifold than the 16

Its the port hole style and bolt mounting hole spacing that are the differences.....

    Z18XE inlet manifold

Astra G X16XEL inlet (same port sizes as the Z16XE but uses a one piece cast aliminium inlet manifold instead of a 2 piece one on the Z16XE)

Here are pics from JAM's mod diary of the Z16XE throttle and top if the manifold

Now compare that to the Z18XE throttle and you can see the issue.

Next question (oh, if you do have a Z18XE TB you fancy sending me then let me know ) - does the airbox pipework from the Z16XE TB fit straight onto the Z18XE TB? Covering as many bases as I can think of at the moment

Z18XE Piping looks very similar only it doesn't have a resonator like the Z16XE

So more than likely ( someone will clear this up hopefully )
