Unhappy Fell at the first hurdle.... advice please! (Long)

Ok so when i first picked up the new car it took me a while to notice that there was no bulb for the light in the boot. I thought rather than going back and getting one i would just replace it with an aftermarket blue festoon bulb as i'm going for blue lights throughout, seems simple enough.

Now before you read on please understand that i'm a complete novice at this sort of thing, and it turns out that even easy things like this are too difficult lol.

So i did a bit of research and found that i needed a 38mm bulb for the boot (i still dont know if this is correct??) While trying to fit said bulb i had purchased i managed to lose it down into the trim, dont ask how lets just say it wasnt my finest hour. I think it wasnt 100% my fault because whilst looking at the fitting i think it has been put back together incorrectly by the previous owner

It seems that the long metal part is plugged inot the wrong side of the connector (i didnt realise at first and hence lost the bulb). heres a few more pics to illustrate what i mean...

here's a pic of it put together, which clearly shows that it doesn't sit right..

Now i tried removing said metal piece but it wont budge and i don't want to force it, can anyone confirm if im right about this and any tips on correcting it?

Thanks for any help and sorry about the length of the post!

it might be a bit short - im not sure about the fitting size for the boot.

yuo could just bend the metal round so that it holds the bulb in place - its only a thin bit of metal and can be bent in and out easily enough

Yeah, bend it a bit with some pliers and all should be good.

it should be 42mm long, also ive heard that fitting aftermarket bulbs in the boot light might not work but theres no harm in trying i suppose.
