Peeling primer - causes, solutions? Does ignorance count?

After the comments of many, i decided to paint up my bonnet lifters.

Most of the lifters are fine. I think one is pretty problem free. The other has began to crack. I only applied it about an hour or so ago

    * Why is it cracking? surely not due to grease or whatever on the surface? I gave the entire lifter a good wipe down with warm soapy water & the rest of it isn't cracking. I did the same when doing my grille & that didn't crack either.

    * Can i just plod on & paint tomorrow or does this need to be tended to? Do i have to sand it right back until the metal is showing?

Only difference is i painted it in the shed, wheras i've done all the other work (the grille) in the house. But it's a warm enough day & the rest of the lifter seems fine.

Would prefer to get the priming dealt with today as i was planning on painting tomorrow, lacquer on thurs, fit on Friday which is when i'm away for the weekend.

this will carry through to your final coating, sand it back and reapply.

With painting prep work is essential.
