    engine problems 1.8 16v 2001 model

    hello every1.
i have a 2001 1.8 club, the engine is dead and been ripped out.
i bought an engine from a 1999 model and then found out it wont work, luckily it didnt get fitted!
i am in desperate need of a replacement, and have to sell the 1999 engine.
i have found the correct engine at breakers yards, but they all want between £400 and £700 for them.
i cannot afford more than £250 as i still have to pay a mechanic to fit it.
so, does anyone know of someone breaking their own car, as i think this will be the cheaper option?
really stuck on this so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    cheers, graham.

    Transplant

try the 2.0 litre engine and box ,they fit straight in and are cheap as chips, maybe get a donor vectra 140 they are going for peanuts nowadays and youll probably get a good power plant.

If someone asked you where to buy a McDonalds, why tell them where to get a Burger King or KFC?

cheers for the replies so far, the engine i bought is from a 1999 model and engine code is x18xe. i have since been told i need a z18xe, the one with the cat on the manifold.

i have found a cheap y reg vectra 1.8 . would this engine be a straight swap?
