    Supercharged 1.6?

    I was sat today having a think in my thinking shed (bored in a uni lecture) and started wondering how easy it would be to supercharge a 1.6 astra. My thought would be to remove the A/C pump and using the mounts for that I would get an adaptor made to fit a small supercharger (possible an eaton m45 off a cooper S or something along those lines) and then run it off an adapted drive belt. I really dont think it would be too hard to do - the biggest problem I can see is clearance with the exhausr manifold but Im sure that could be controlled. The internals would stay standard so how is the boost on the chager controlled as tha max I would risk would be 8psi? and has anyone heard of this being done to a vaux 1.6?

    Just a random thought but if its easy enough I might give it a bash. If it all goes tits up a replacement engine is only go 200 quid so im not too bothered lol
    It would definitely go better with an engine in it

    Hasn't someone here looked at this recently? I know they actually bought a Mini supercharger but vaguely recall someone suggesting a better alternative...

    Prob being mate is that you would not just be wasteing your engine realy , as i should think you would have to shell out a bit of cash on other bits and bobs aswell to get it running right with the charger on ie fueling. Would be interesting build to watch tho mate if you go for it.

    it would cost more to do than trading the car for a faster one.

    i looked into this a while ago, and rough figures are in the region of £6k not including a massive hike on the insurance premiums (I pay £200 full comp now, after £550 and thats with 11 years no claims)

    I'm actually looking into a second car and turning it into a track racer

    I looked at doing it properly and rough prices were;

    Supercharger - £350
    Pipes - £100
    Intercooler -£250
    Pistons and Rods - £1000
    Injectors - £100
    Mapping - £300
    Mount - £free

    give or take with other bits and bobs it would probably work out at £2500 doing things properly. Needless to say I wouldnt do it properly and save myself about 3/4 of that.

    Ive been offered a M45 for 50 quid off a mate whos blown his cooper S up so Im gonna buy that and take things from there. The pipes and mouts my dad can get made at his work for the massive sum of free. A Universal intercooler off fleabay/random one from a scrappy can be got for under 100 quid, injectors from a bigger engine again from a scrappy can be got for next to nowt, and remap done at mates rates for £150. My pikey way comes in at not much at all - I recon i could do it for under 500 quid. Bearing in mind X16XEL's regularly go for 200 quid I can blow mine up 28 times before I spend the 6k you would have ...
