I've been a long time reader of this forum which has helped my out of the poo so many times (thanks to the search button), especially when I was getting oil in my header tank, that bloody cheap oil cooler!!!
Anyway, for my sins I've got a 2001 ECO 4 (Y17DT), couldnt resist the cheap road tax. Now I've only had it a few months and I've not really got many complaints about it, other than it still smells of dogs thanks to the last owner.
Just recently I've noticed that when I'm in 5th gear on a motorway and I have to break at say, medium level, I get a really strange drumming noise and I cant quite diagnose what or where its coming from. Added to this, this morning I've noticed what sounds like an exhaust blowing or rubbing sound (only noticed it because I'd not switched my radio on), thought it was a meaty motorbike in the distance.
Anyway, it only starts or I can only hear it when I'm doing around 20mph and sure it stops just before I'm at a standstill. Whilst I was driving I've pressed the clutch in for a while and I can still hear it werring away and changing pitch as the car slows down. I've quickly check to make sure none on the inner wheel arch plastics arent rubbing, but other than a wheel bearing or the thrust bearing I cant even think where to start off!
My question is, have any of you lot experienced this this before? Thanks for any comeback on this one, Mark
