2001 Astra 1.7 DTi Intercooler black oil

    Hi all

    I've a 51 Reg Astra 1.7 DTi LS 16V ECO4.

Yesterday while cleaning the engine bay, I noticed small amount of black oil around the intercooler at the top.

Also some oil had made it way down to the bottom of the intercooler where most of it is getting deposited.

Its black, thick and sticky, so its not dropping on the floor but just enough to get me worried.

Are intercoolers air based (as I thought) or water or oil based and what could be this oil/ where from?

Checked the coolant as well, it has been all clear from any sludge/ oil so far. The oil level is at correct level (as always) and I don't feel any loss in power.

Any help is as always much appreciated. Thanks..

Its just oil from the crank case breather, nothing to worry about.

Thanks Fear_1, just thinking where this oil came from as the dipstick oil level has not dropped and could you advise of a way to clean it?

Would paint cleaner/ turpentine thinner do?

Its likely to have accumulated over the years so there wouldn't be a noticable drop in oil.

Try a parts cleaner, brake/carb cleaner or even petrol.
