    Turbo Smoke

    Right, my Arden GSi has covered 60K - 10K of which is mine.
    The last few weeks i feel that there is less pull, and on a cold start up there seems to be a screeching noise as the turbo spools up - sounds like bearings squeaq??? after car is warmed up all is fine, untill today, gave the car a bit of a hard run up a hill, left it idling to hitch my my m8s trailer and when i drove off the blue smoke and fumes were unbelieveable, morel ike a steam train!

    What's this? Take it a knacered turbo;
    What options have i got and rough price range?? Thanx

    thanx m8! are these the good ones are they? as i've read that there are dodgy VXR units around aswell. How much of a job to fit this? I have a 2post life in the garage and my dad is very experienced with cars but not turbos he said! however he is mechanically minded with his work and that? reckon we could giv it a go?? or best take to garage?

    well these are better than the standard turbo's fitted at new, but some people say these are still weak, you can get a uprated 1 to this but they are , little bit more money at £1500 a bit steep if you ask me,

    http://www.regal-shop.co.uk/ just in the middle there, or you could ring turbo technics which will make you 1 up ,

    http://www.turbotechnics.com/docs/index.htm and ask them to make you 1 , and they would explain what's what with them , as how to fit them, and so on, sorry i cant be of any more help,

    big job to fit the turbo? or a straight swap? It's now doing my head in, stinks of oil, and has made the car missfire a few times.

    So should i go for this courney VXR turbo? or have you got other options?

    How much am i looking to fit at garage? If my dad has thorough knowledge of cars and mechanical workings is it possible to do?? or leave it proffecionals?

    turbo is easy to change mate just unbolt the manifold and swap it.

    my standard turbo went at the weekend, smoking so bad and leaking alot of oil.

    had to buy a new one, so got the vxr turbo, fitting it on saturday

    but i put my spare turbo on on monday and it took about 2 hours, includes stopping for lunch

    therfore you reckon well within capabilities if my dad is a experienced engineer/toolmaker and has stripped down numerous engines/bikes?

    Is there anything else apart from the turbo i require? gaskets? bolts? i've had a price of £470 for brand new VXR trubo but with no warranty /guarantee unless i pay another 300 for them to fit it.
