Astra 1.6 mot failure on c/o emissions

My daughters Astra 1.6 2000 model failed big style as the mechanic said today, engine was hot 83 degrees oil temp. All the manual tests passed on print out but others failed, guys said engine was very tired, he didn't know it was newly reconned, he told daughter that it was possible running rich, Question can I adjust the fuel mixture to weaken it off, or it the car a lost cause being 9 yrs old. Or can anybody help us pls.

Electronic fuel injection i'm afraid so no mixture adjustment is possible. High C/O normally points towards CAT failure.
Now Running Boost, AWD and a Flat 4.

The car runs brill, fast responsive, smooth ride. Recon new rings, shells, head skim, valves, guides, done at 6 mths ago no warrenty the engine is brill can't fault it, except mot failure. Oil may need a change as bin in for 6 mths, done 4k miles since recon. Never had issue with temp gauge runs just below half, on tick over just above then fan kicks in. Just posted result in last post can you take anything from this

With it being a new reconned engine it may well be a good idea to have an oil change, but it will make hardly any difference on emissions

Like I said with a Hydrocarbon reading like that, and how lean of a reading the lambda sensor is, If I could find mine, then it'd be the same, my cat converter was non existent

So it looks like a new cat/front pipe, would you go for a ceramic one £53 quoted or a steel one for £124 they say it will last 3 times longer.

She just told me that it was blowing and she had it welded at work, may be they messed it up with excessive heat during welding. She should have had a new one then.
    thx
