    EGR/ICV valves dirty?

Hi guys! Sorry to bring up this subject again, it seems to be one of the most discussed here!
The car will stall at junctions when i brake and put the clutch in just before i stop, and then will not start at all for a few minutes, just tries but wont actually kick in. I also have a jar of hellmands mayo under the oil cap, but that comes as standard with the car i think.
After reading around the forum, I think it is the EGR and ICV valves all gunked up with crap. I have read the how to's and feel mildly confident doing it...just have not seen any photos on the forum that look like my engine to identify the actual parts!
I had the EGR valve replaced about a year and a half ago too, this car just seems to make my wallet bleed.

    Photo of main engine ^

EGR Valve circled in red. can anyone confirm? ^

Think the ICV is somewhere around here? Help again please? ^

    Thanks for any help!!

You have the EGR correct!... try blanking it off for the sake of a few quid on eBay, put the blanking plate on it, and leave the EGR hanging there so the ECU still thinks it doing its job.

I just cleaned mine out last night with WD40 it was full of carbon and crap, really you should try carb cleaner give it a go first.

not too sure about ICV though

You dont have an ICV,the stepper motor built into the throttle body(in photo)controls the idle

once youve cleaned the throttle body and EGR (you could also blank off the EGR with a blanking plate for a tenner from ebay)

my other recommendation is the CTS (coolant temperature sensor) located on the rear of the inlet manifold - it detects when the engine is cold and supplies more fuel - sometimes, when faulty, it detects this when warm and supplies too much resulting in a stall (or something along those lines!!)

EGR/TB/CTS are the likely culprits tho

TB - only thing u can do is clean it with carb cleaner
EGR - clean it (but seeing as its new ish i doubt its gonna be knackered)
    CTS - replace

    HTH

PS: Dont worry about the mayo - all 8v Vxl engines are like that - if in doubt, dump the oil , remove the cam case and scoop out all the mayo, clean out all the crank case breather pipes to aid ventilation in the future and fill with fresh oil/filter - ensure car gets a good drive at least once a week - enough to burn off any built up condensation in the cam case.

If you want one, you can get an EGR blanking plate from here only £2.50 and no postage.
    Save where you can..
