1.8 16v astra coupe help needed please.

    please help, ive bought a x/reg 2000 astra coupe i.8 16v.
since buying it on sunday some things have got me very worried.
the service light came on and the revs started going up and down,
and a funny noise started coming from the engine,
i took it to a vavxhall garage this morning and hade it pluged into the meachine and he said it needs a new throthl body thats wots making it rev up and down, he also said it would cost about £280+vat for a new 1,
while i was there it dint seem to make the funny rattel it made be for and the man said it sounds sweet. but im still very worried, he also told me if it revs again to take the wires out of the air flow meter and try it again. if its the meachine says its the throtal body why do this to the air flow meter? and to make things worse the oil light dont go out until you rev it a lillel bit. and the temp guage has a mind of its owne its normal then cold depends when you look. the only fault he could find was the throtal dody. please please some one help me. thanks in advance martin astra 1.8 16v.

    TEMP GAUGE

Is your heater still warm when the temperature is down?

Is your oil at the right level?

Sounds like it could be the coolant temperature sensor.
