    Random cutting out

The car is randomly cutting out when I dip the clutch when slowing down. It was throwing the EML on so I got the code read which came up as nackered EGR valve so I took it off, cleaned it and stuck it back on which solved the problem for a few days but now its back but without the EML coming on . Could this be the EGR valve throwing a strop and needing replaced completley or some other random problem bearing in mind that ive changed the whole inlet on the car and its overfueling
It would definitely go better with an engine in it

Steve, Id just blank off the EGR with one of those plates off ebay - ive actually got a spare one if ur interested - u keep the EGR connected but either tie it out the way or mount it on top of the blanking plate with longer bolts and a few washers to space the 2 to provide enough clearance for the valve to pulse

let me know if ur interested

heres one on an 8v i fitted the other day - EGR just cable tied to the side for now - but will eventually be mounted on top once i source the correct length of bolts

I had the whole EGR replaced in my zafira when this happened, it would be fine for a mile or 2 then it would start to 'choke'

Revving the engine to max seemed to cure it for 5 mins, but it wasnt ideal so i had to get the whole valve replaced

replacement EGR is only £45 but even better is £10 for a blanking plate!

unlike the £150 u paid (read ur other thread!!!) ouch! (even including a diagnostic - which can be done DIY for nothing!)

anyway glad u got yours sorted on the Zaf

Any update on your situation Steve? Gimme a shout if u want my blanking plate

Sorry to piss on ur fire mate but its posts like this which cause problems

First of all the blanking plate isnt just "a couple of quid" from Vxl

Secondly the ECU update isnt available on all cars and especially not on Steves car as which this thread relates to!

Anyway he's about a mile from me, Ive got a spare blanking plate and this way only costs less than a tenner - remember the ECU update costs

you could try re setting the ecu by disconnecting the battery

If there is an actual fault there, this will do nothing. Id do that AFTER blanking/cleaning the EGR. But always worth a try i suppose.

I managed to get my blanking plate on eBay £3.50 delivered,
