sticking an avi file on a CD/DVD to watch on a DVD player? How?

I have Nero, i think the version is 6.6.1.4 & upgrading to Nero version [newest] is not an option.

I've done this in the past, but i can't for the life of me remember how i did it, yet i do remember it being a doddle.

    The file is 799mb

I googled, but found the .avi needs to be encoded into something else, and then some other program ran on it and then another program, and turn around touch your nose before you can Nero it & then watch it. WTF??

I don't remember doing any of that last time round.

I have CD's / DVDs, so that's not an issue.

    Any tech wizards here?

    Add Chewy. on Facebook
Not a tech wizard and not to sure on nero 6 but on my computer with nero 7, now nero 8 you can do it through nero vision.

Open up Nero vision and some where on the screen there should be a make dvd option
Then the next screen is where you add the file.....click next.
Next screen - give video a name......click next
Next screen - preview video.......click next
next screen - burning options.....click burn

this program converts and burns the file all in 1 and depending on the size usually takes around 1 - 1.5 hours.

hope this helps as i only have newer Nero

    PMd back sam, cheers

It seems my poor Nero 6 isn't up to the job as it doesn't have Nero Vision. lol.

I got my Nero 6 off of eBay, but let's just say (through no cause of mine) the seller is no longer a seller anymore.

Might have to obtain a newer Nero the same way perhaps. Depends on the price.

If your DVD player can handle .avi files, just slap it onto a cd(My DVD player takes usb/memory card/cd/dvd/mp3/divx/xvid etc..and upscales!)

If your DVD player can't handle xvid/divx formats, try winavi to convert to DVD format, usualy takes around 30mns to convert a 700mb file onto a DVD!

When burning use 4x speed, any higher you usualy end up with jumps!!!!!

    Yup Windows

anyway, just to say, i recommend you do NOT google naughty things

I've just had to spend the past few hours backing up a heavy hard drive because my computer is now royally screwed.

I'm accessing this through the g/f's HD (2 HDDs in the 1 machine).

I used convertxtodvd & it did the 1hour convert, but when it came time to burn to a DVD, it froze on 5 SECONDS remaining. I had to turn the PC off as it froze there for a good few minutes.

The HDD is now funked. I don't know how to sort it, so it's looking like a format job. Not happy as i've got logins to websites that i can't bloody well remember too.
