    Mk4 Windscreen

Hi everyone, as some of you may have heard i had my windows smashed with a hammer last month, the windscreen has been left with the passenger side all cracked and 2 hammer head imprints in there...

Having rung Autoglass they want £330 to replace it just wondered if anybody can suggest ANYWHERE, that may be cheaper or that happens to have one but hasnt seen my wanted ad...

I cant claim on the insurance as at the time the car was out the back in "storage" just need it fixing asap due to family and things it is going to be needed alot over the next few months...

    You're joking?

I had a chip & got it looked at for free on the insurance. Fella took my policy number but didn't check my paperwork even though he asked me to bring it down

Had i not gone through the insurance, it'd have been £80.

I asked what a new screen would cost. He said about £90

Can't remember the firm though. Might've been autoglass, i can't remember

Autoglass wanted £250 for my windscreen!
Phoned another place and got told £150,so drove up to the place, the guy fitting the windscreens was working on his own and had a few cars to do.
He told me to go home and he'd come to my house and do it as a homer for £100,had it done that night, with a 2year guarantee!!

Couldn't claim on insurance as only TPFT.

Autoglass are the single most expensive company that Ive ever used, charged me £150 for a drivers window a week before christmas 2years ago the robbers!!!

Not from around your way but reading your post, you said you did a quick search

why not get the yellow pages out & call every place listed in your area for a quote to see if you get any result

Had mine replaced on 25/feb/09 with RAC Auto windscreens (all same company),
It was done through my insurance so it only cost me £60 excess ,
But they gave me a copy of the invioce that they give my insurance company ,
    1, 6284LGRBL (part number) Vauxhall Astra 98-04 GRN/BLU- (top tint)=£135.65
    -£60.00 (excess)
    goods total £75.65
    VAT@15% £20.35
    Invioce total £96.00
So if you was to phone Auto windscreens quote the ref: 6284LGRBL you would a top tint screen fitted for £135.65 ,
Which is still cheap I think
    phone Auto Windscreens 01246 223155
