Some questions from a complete novice

As many of you know, i'm notone for cleaning really. It's never been one of those things i can get excted about. But the more i read and the more pictures i see, the more i want to do a really good job on my freshly painted car. So i thought i'd ask some questions before i go like a bull in a china shop.

    1. How do you remove all the current protection from your paintwork, to start from scratch?

    2. The Dodo Juice 'coloured' waxes, i remember gaz saying that Orange Crush would work well on my car but what about my black roof?

    3. Whats the best kind of protecton to use on wheels?

    4. Once i've done a proper job on the polish and wax (was planning on buying the kit from CYC - Carlack Nano & Colly 476) can i just foam and wash ad the protection still be in place?

Thanks in advance chaps. Cars home tomorrow for the first time snce September (hopefully if it passes it's MoT) and then i can get cracking

    1. How do you remove all the current protection from your paintwork, to start from scratch?

Use a clay bar to clean the paint, and even some Citrus shampoo if you want.

    2. The Dodo Juice 'coloured' waxes, i remember gaz saying that Orange Crush would work well on my car but what about my black roof?

Pete's 53 would be good, but Orange crush would also protect the roof fine if you didn't want to buy two different products.

    3. Whats the best kind of protecton to use on wheels?

Not sure as not used any myself. But poorboys wheel sealant is meant to be good. If the wheels are painted any wax should protect them ok as long as its re-applied regularly.

    4. Once i've done a proper job on the polish and wax (was planning on buying the kit from CYC - Carlack Nano & Colly 476) can i just foam and wash ad the protection still be in place?

Yes, so long as you don't use a citrus based foam or shampoo as that will strip wax. The wax will need to be applied fairly often though to give good beading etc. I normally re-apply every other time I wash the car. Depends how often you wash the car though

    1. How do you remove all the current protection from your paintwork, to start from scratch?

claying will remove all tar, industrial fallout wax and ant other bonded contaminants.

    2. The Dodo Juice 'coloured' waxes, i remember gaz saying that Orange Crush would work well on my car but what about my black roof?

any wax can be used on any colour. i would recommend chemical guys 50/50 wax, you will get good results on both colours, and also gives good protection.

    3. Whats the best kind of protection to use on wheels?

poorboys or chemical guys wheel sealant. or use a polymer sealant like zaino z2pro or chemical guys jetseal 109. can also use a wax like collinite 915.

    4. Once I've done a proper job on the polish and wax (was planning on buying the kit from CYC - Carlack Nano & Colly 476) can i just foam and wash ad the protection still be in place?

after washing just ensure clean and dry with no marks (use a qd spray) then apply wax. different waxes last different times but the more you build up the better the protection (to a point).

    Thanks for the response guys.

What's everyone's opinion on the kit that CYC are selling - Carlack Nano and Collinite 476? It says that it should last 12 months whcih would be ideal for someone as unethusiatic about cleaning as me.

Would it do the job or is it a bit hardcore?

will be fine. 476 is not known for its looks but well known for durability.

    That will do me then

I'm never gonna win any awards for cleanest car etc, but just so long as it looks presentable and is well protected, that will do me

I used colinite 476 around september time and the rain still beads off it nicely so it definately lasts.
