    Fair price on spraying?

I know there has been a few threads about prices for spraying and usually I'd be happy to pay the price but this just seems ridiculous!!!

The bloke that has done bits for me before wants £100 to do my bumpstrips and one door handle, that I'm sanding down first to get rid of the texture.

He broke down the price and said how he's got to mix the paint doesnt star silver come in a tin ? Then said about baking them in the oven would cost £20, am I missing the point or can these not get put in the oven with other things seeing as the oven is big enough to fit a transit van in?!?

    Rant over

It does come in a tin but over time paint does fade a lil. So, he will mix the paint to get the exact colour. Well tahts what happened when i had mine done.

i paid £225 for removal sprayed and fit of my bumpstrips, sideskirts and a mirror cover. He broke it down for me, £50 per skirt, £50 per side of bump strips and £25 for my mirror. I thought it was very good and its very good quality.

sounds about right then seeing as removal of bumpstrips doesnt take much but I'm still doing the shi**y job of sanding it all down which I though was the most time consuming part. bite the bullet I suppose and let him get on with it

Sounds like a ripoff to me mate. If you do the prep and supply the paint Id look at no more than 50 quid. I got my coupe sideskirts sprayed for 80 quid with them doing the prep. All I did was provide a 1/4ltr of colour that cost me 6 quid...
It would definitely go better with an engine in it

TBH £100 is not a bad price.

To paint the door strips, he will have to DA them back, Plastic primer them. Then a minimum of 2 coats of 2k high build primer. Flat that back. then another coat if all the grain has not gone. Clean everything. atleast 2 coats and a drop coat of silver before 2 coats of lacquer.

I would say in all that it would take him around 10 hours labour inc the baking time to do these.

Retail a litre of star silver will be around £60-70 + VAT by todays prices. Even at trade a litre costs around £30+ VAT.

Some places wont paint self preped work in case it causes problems. Plus if you use to course grad of sand paper to remove the grain it will cause the plastic to fur up and causes all sorts of problems to try and get rid of it.

If you take all that into consideration £100 dont seem that bad now?
