I suspect a adjusted milage of my friends coupe?

My friend have a 2000 1.8 coupe, and i suspect that maybe the milage have been adjusted at this car.

I see that the interior is much more worn out than normal, and the car haven't doing more than 90,000km.
Is it possible too adjust the milage, or is it just bad maintenance of the car?

I caught someone out doing this...the car was advertised at having 70k on the clock, but the gaitor near the gearstick was really worn, and the seats were quite saggy. We HPI's the car and the DVLA had records of what the mileage was at what year..but they didn't seem to pick up that it had lost about 30k somewhere

I showed the seller the HPI check, he claimed not to know anything about it (which to be fair it was before he had the car) but I still managed to knock £300 off the asking price.

Condition wise of the interior , I would say the car had done well over 100k

its easy enough to put in lower millage clocks from the same car. So more than possible.

tbh HPI checks are you best way to find out.

like GTE said the previous owner may not have had a clue as it couldve been changed by the owner before that.

you could also be luck and it may be a new engine with new clocks tho i doubt a dealer will change clocks ?

yeah you can just change the clocks, a lot of people change them for the coupe clocks or the latter ones with the metal surround around the clocks. A vaux/opel garage can put the correct millage on for you but the majoirty wont do that.

They cant do it mate, I tried as my vans got around 80k miles on it and clocks say 47k. I've tried vauxhall and they said they cant do it unless I buy a brand new set of clocks as they cant be altered after they've gone past 100 miles. A back street garage might be able to do it but I am yet to find one I just keep a record of what the original clocks said when I swapped them over so when I come to sell it doesn't look like I'm trying to con anyone

So c20let2k the answer to your question is yes as I've done it to mine but not intentionally

there are electronics that can reset / change the digital clocks. they charge quite a bit cause they are usually doing it for dishonest people clocking off 1000's miles.

If you have the MOT documents, look at them as they will tell the story of the miles. If you don't have them then you can goto VOSA's website and put in your V5 details to obtain all the previous MOTs, HPI also gives a mile check from various sources (dealers have to submit this information).

I went and looked at an SXI that had 42k on the clock but had worn gators etc. It makes you wonder if it's a regular thing.
