drive slower, change into gear earlier, anticipate road ahead instead of brake/accellerate

try the 'premium' fules. Might cost more per litre, but when i did this last time after being a doubter, i was surprised. Run it in for a few tanks to see if it works for you.

Don't drive in 5th at 30mph like some people advise.

Don't up & down the gears needlessley & don't keep hitting the brakes (i.e. judge the road ahead in good time)

Instead of racing to the red lights & slamming on the brake, try slowing down in good time so you don't have to stop

Don't need to be racing up to 60mph etc as i find the traffic rarely (unless 1st thing in the morn) continues at that speed. May as well sit at 50mph or 55mph.

Only do 70mph on the motorway. I stuck to the slow lane on a recent m-way journey doing 60-62mph. Only time i pulled out was to overtake lorries, in which case i got up a bit of speed if it looked like i'd hold someone up.

Every little contributes. I get more of a buzz out of seeing what i can save these days rather than razzing top speed everywhere like an idiot

Don't carry 3ton of useless clutter in your car

Don't sit at lights revving it like a fool

Why?? Iv done this in all my cars and got mint mpg....

30mph in 5th = 12-1400 rpm which is spot on, how can this be bad for mpg? Go in 4th at 1800 rpm

I found it to have a detreimental effect to the mpg return.

Perhaps it's similar to some saying premium fuel gives better mpg whereas others disagree? I dunno.

I've only seen one chap on here before recommending it. Other people weren't so keen on it IIRC

I was always tought, taught (how the feck do you spell that word? lol) to shift into say, 3rd at 20mph, 4th at 30mph and 5th at 40mph. I also read on numerous car sites that roughly 2k revs was 'ideal' for gear changing, which just so happens to tie in with those figures. That'd be like, to 4th and then 5th straight away at 30, or just from 3rd to 5th at 30.

I was always told that's not a clever idea.

I'm open to being told that's wrong. It's just what i've always been told tiz all.

5th gear at 30 is fine, as long as you're not labouring the engine, which you shouldn't be really.
And you were right the second time with TAUGHT.

Don't you hate it when you have a mind block over simple words lol. Not usually one for spelling incorrectly, they both still look wrong to me.

Oh well, i'm sure i'll be able to sleep tonight
