    Z20LET Head gasket

    Hi ,

Can anyone tell me how much i'd be expecting to pay to get my head gasket changed on my mk4 coupe

I have a MOT coming up would this need to be changed before mot as in does it effect the emmissions.

    Thanks

Question is, why are you wanting to change it? do you have oil in your water? is it running badly? The only way it would effect the emmisions is if it was runnign terribly from it. Have you had a compression or sniff test done?

No i havent had a compression or sniff test done

I changed my rocker cover gasket and on one of the pipe's there was white stuff all over it but i didnt see any in the actual cams area.

I dont think the car does run right and probably needs to go in the get checked.

there is a slight oil leak as well as i seen some on snow when parked and dad thinks there was white stuff ( not snow lol) too

The white stuff is condesation mixing with oil fumes, causing the glup and is perfectly normal. Clean out the pipe and put it back on and then check the other two breathers on the rocker cover. If they are blocked you get bad running as it knocks your crankshaft compression out.

Like mattcoupturbo said I would be having a compression/sniff test done before you spend some dosh that you don't need too.
