New number plates - border or plain?

Okies, I'm after some new number plates - legal ones, no dodgy lettering etc. So far this website seems a good place:

    http://www.no1showplates.co.uk

Set of plain legal font plates with no border is £16.98 delivered, with a plain black border and inset text (thinking of www.astraownerslub.com just because!) is £20.43 delivered.

My current plates have a naff red border (black car, no red anywhere else) plus the original dealership info etc. I quite like the border but black seems a more suitable choice? I know it's a subtle thing but it's one of those little things that wil look right or wrong!

Here's a pic of my plates that I got from myshowplates.com (I know the spacing is dodgy before anyone says it):

Bye bye VXR Castle Combe Edition - because it's done more laps of Castle Combe than most Bergs have of the Ring

Iv got a thick red border round mine, with text called HI-LINE (All legal), looks spot on with the red car!

On my black one, just had black border with 3d text (Legal again)

I prefer the plain ones with no border, no GB badge and no slogan. I got mine off of eBay, I think they were £7 and they were good quality aswell.

Have a look in my garage, poor photos but my black mk4 and silver coupe both had black borders.

They look too plain without borders imo

Here's mine. Was playing with all the add-ons. Decided to go plain. Never looked back!

i've juSt ordered some from ebay with the postcode etc in small at the bottom as well as the BSAU code for £11 delivered! took all of 2 days to come through!

im still undecided on whether to cut them down, i had the BSAU code moved under the plate letters to remain legal, and not sure whether to go down to the minimum length each side!
