    Hesitation /Stutter

    Hi All,

My car (Astra LS 1999 , petrol 16V) is running very sluggish from a dead stop until it gets up to speed. There is some hesitation or stutter (whatever it is called) as shift to 2nd gear from 1st gear. So annoying at traffic light or at roundabout. First af all, Im thinking about to clean Throttle Body and Idle Control Valve (ICV) as this forum said.

Do I need to clean them first of all?
Does it sort the problem out?
What else do I need to look for?

    Thanks alot,

    Newbie DG

Try those first, there's a guide in the Technical Section.

Also just a suggestion.. When cleaning your throttle body clean your breather pipe to the right hand side of it coming from the block. These often get gunked up and are usually the reason for an unclean throttle body.

Just after changing your filter they need a good clean up too after it has been ran in as the filters are saturated in oils which transfer through to your TB.

My Vectra 2.0 did this until 2 weeks ago.

I cleaned the Throttle body with Wynns and replaced the ICV (£30 nicker from the bay) and its been fine and dandy since. I could probably have just cleaned the ICV and it would have been fine too.

I'm a total amateur mechanic, but its an easy and cheap fix and makes a lot of difference

    Hi

I cleaned my car's Throttle Body using Wynn's Carb cleaner ( http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165750 ). And used high octane petrol with Wynn's Injection Cleaner (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165750 ). I think all worked fine for 2 weeks. Fuel run out, and this morning I put unleaded 95 without (obviously) injection cleaner. It seems car is not running as smooth as before? So I just realized previous owner may used to use High Octane fuel regularly and the car may get used to with that fuel rather than unleaded 95? Is it the case?

    Thanks
    DG

The car adjusts to different octane rated fuels overtime, so it will stutter for a while.

Have you checked the condition of the spark plugs to see if they're coked up? could be time for a change maybe
