Last week was the first time i have drove the car for a month or two and the front coilovers (kw veriant 3's) seem to have created a knock when driving. As it was getting some exhaust work been done when the knocking was noticed i asked the guys to have a quick look to see if there was anything much to see and they found one of the two strut bolts loose on the near side.
The last people to have had the car was the people who set up the camber so back the car goes to them and they sorted the tracking and camber for free but the knocking was still there and they found that when you turn the steering wheels side to side there is a clunking from the srpings as the coilover hight adjusting plate is moving with the strut but the spring isnt.
They also said that the small part of the spring at the top of the coilover is totally compressed and it should not be and this could be causing the knocking noise.
I have had the wheels off today but can not see how the smaller top spring can be adjusted at all! While i was there i checked to make sure both sides were adjusted the same and checked the locking screw on the hight adjuster which were both tight but if i try i can still slightly move base adjuster if i try.
While i was there i backed off the rebound and bump settings. After a short drive the general knock seems to of gone so i guess they were set too hard on the bump and rebound settings but i still get a clunk sometimes when turning the steering from the front springs again.
So my question is can the top smaller springs be adjusted in anyway and/or have i missed/done something wrong when fitting them and would the smaller top springs cause the problems i am having when turning the steering?
heres a pic of the top smaller spring if anyone is unsure on what i mean.
