    exhaust manifold diagram mk4 sri

    Hey Guys

Basically i have a mk4 1.8 sri 2001 plate and its started to sound like i have taken the exhaust of the manifold as its so so so loud

i popped the bonnet to take a look .....and the pipe that comes out the manifold and goes into what only i can only call a tin can looking section with a wire gauze on is not fixed so this is flapping about and not sealing the exhaust fumes to go down the exhaust section and out the back

i rang a local garage he said sounds like i need a new manifold/cat section

i wanted to know if anyone can tell me is there just clamp that holds the cat to the manifold? or has a digram so i can explain the section better

    Thanks
    Dan

    If it's this bit...

... it's just a flexible joint and any ½way decent exhaust place should be able to cut the old one out and slot in a new one

FFOEG ...hey buddy no its not that bit

basically the manifold goes out and down near the radiator and this section i talk of would attaches to manifold is like a round 3-5 ltr tin can size with a wire gauze shape in it abit like a oil filter is flapping about and should be sealed/fixed ....then this would drop down and swoop out to mid box of car.....make sense?

i am not sure of the parts name i need to ask for

i hunted for a diagram on google but to no joy

    Cheers
    Dan

It's all part of the mainfold -

The big canister is the catalytic converter, and it coesm as one piece with the mani

What's odd is that the same thing seems to have happened to you about a year ago - http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/sh...d.php?t=135064
