Big brake upgrade on 4-stud non-ABS - what and where?

What is needed for a bigger brake upgrade on a 4-stud non-ABS MK4?

How big can you go under the OEM 16" alloys?

Currently on 256mm discs I think - where do you get the bits from etc and roughtly how much?

you can go up to 308mm on 16's.

AFAIK, you can fit ABS with the right loom and calipers. Buy the calipers and carriers for a mk4 GSi or Coupe Turbo then get some 4 stud 308mm discs from LMF.

Not fussed on ABS for now, I'd have to get the whole setup under the bonnet for that too?

i'm going up to 280mm on mine. Vauxhall Meriva 280mm discs (as these are 4 stud) which Vauxhall are doing cheap with pads (trade club price).
Then all you need to do is source callipers, carriers and steering knuckles from a 5 stud.

So far I've spent .... £60, all I need are the knuckles.

Sorry to hijack but can rear discs be upgraded as well without changing the callipers etc?

The 280mm conversion is a good one and its been on my wifes car for a year and a half now and still love it.

I carried out the first conversion followed by Geordiebandit after passing on the info..... It took me ages to research the right parts to use and it makes a big difference comapred to standard 256mm discs. You can fit 308mm discs under 16's but not all 16's. Also they will not look factory fit like the 280mm conversion as everything is OEM

As mentioned use Meriva CDTi 4-stud 280mm discs or Astar H 4 stud 280mm discs.
