Question astra G 1.8 sport traction control

right, i know this has been sort of discussed before but i'm still unclear. i've recently bought a '99 astra 1.8 sport. it has the TC button in front of the gear stick which turns the light near my speedo on and off. now i haven't noticed the TC kicking in at all. i've been driving in snow and also on damp tarmac with no effect what so ever.

firstly, for the TC to be active, should the light be on or off? and is the light supposed to flash if it intervenes?

secondly, to others who have this feature, is it noticeable when it kicks in?

    cheers guys

when you press the button and the light is on it's off, when driving and the car "jerks / slows" the tc light will flash when it's kicked in. Drive around a steep corner in the wet with too much gas, you will see it then.

    Welcome to AOC.

When you start the car, the TC is ON and the dash light is off.

Press the button, the dash light lights up, and the TC is off.

As for noticing if it kicks in, yes it's very noticable, the light will flash and it cuts the power to the front wheels.

That's why i drive with it off all the time.

    Thumbs Up

cheers guys. that cleared that up. i think it behaves correctly because all of the lights are on when i start the engine as they should be, then they all go off after a second or two.

It's just a bit bizare if you're not familiar with the system, that ON means OFF! logic would suggest ON is ON, but hey, who needs logic eh!

thanks again. and thanks for the welcome

the astra G TC is a bit more advanced than older Vauxhalls.

it brakes the spinning wheel to put more power to the other one.

if that fails, then it retards ignition timing to reduce torque, then finally cuts fuelling to kill the power.

when it's just braking, you will get some wheelspin from both wheels before you notice a the hard cut you'd get on vectrabs and cavaliers with tc.

The light is warning you there's a fault(or it's just switched off)

Most warning light come on to show there's some less safe going on.

the TC light will flash when it's actuating, but it's hard to see it on the MK4 (well it is with my hight and wheel position)
