    how to use cruise control?

i have cruise control as standard in my mk4 sri. most of the time is doesnt work and when i try it. i have read the manual but still i usually cant get it to work. it only works randomly sometimes when i try it. anyone know if theres a certain way to make it work like what gear it has to be in and if the clutch has to be down or not etc....

    cheers

Cruise control will work in any gear, it will even work in 1st if your going more than 20 mph. Just resting your foot on the clutch slightly can trip it not to work

dont just tap it!!! cos its more than likely not gonna work

best off getting on a motorway or dual carriageway so plenty time to acclimatise to it

get upto speed (whatever u wish) then with foot OFF brake & clutch - not even resting - press the furthest away button - should have a raised dimple and marked "I" (for increase) press for a few seconds - lift off the pedal and it should be set at that speed - if u press and keep hold of the "I" button the car will accelerate until u let go of the button

if u wanna decrease ur speed but still remain in cruise control mode then press the button marked "R" (for Reduce & Resume)

pressing the long button marked "O" will cancel all actions

if u press the clutch or brake at any time whilst in cruise mode - it will be cancelled and normal driving will continue....... press the "R" button after cancelling and the car will "Resume" where u left off at the previous set speed

so for instance get to 50mph and press the I button - keep it pressed until u gain speed - up to say 70....... press the R button and hold it until ur speed comes down to 60............ press the clutch or brake - ever so gently is enough...... drive normallly to whatever speed u wish then press R again (just once then let go) and it will resume back up to 60 which was the last speed u were driving at in cruise mode before u cancelled it with the pedal

Confused?????? if so then i give up lol

You hit the button with the raised nipple then take your feet off pedals. you can increase speed by pressing same button, or to slow pree the one closets to you to cancel either press one of the foot pedals or press the large button under the 2 smaller ones on the stalk

If you're having trouble activating it when you know your above the 20mph, just try lifting the clutch or brake pedal by hooking your foot under it, just to make sure it not resting on the switches, this is a common fault, sometimes caused by worn springs
    One of the few,,, Mk1'ers!!!!!
